Use of interpolation and extrapolation on original Gini coefficient data by country
In order to produce global estimates of historical poverty trends we have interpolated or extrapolated inequality data for missing observations. Green indicates observations of the Gini coefficient available in the original source.
What the numbers show
Use of interpolation and extrapolation on original Gini coefficient data is currently reported for 157 countries. The highest value is 84,056 in Norway; the lowest is 607 in Central African Republic.
The median across all reporting countries is 11,494, and the mean is 16,511.
The gap between the highest and lowest reporting country is a factor of about 138.
Over the past decade 146 countries rose and 11 fell. The largest increase was in Turkmenistan (up 185.1%), and the largest decrease in Syria (down 54.0%).
